5 Equipment Must-Haves For Your At Home Gym
I am a HUGE fan of at-home gyms. You truly can get in a good workout ANYWHERE (including outside!). Gym memberships are expensive, your workout can become less convenient if you do not live close to the gym, and sometimes it can be difficult to simply find the motivation just to GET there. Most of my workouts are done right at home! I love being able to work out whenever is most convenient for my schedule, and by using an at-home gym, working out just became A LOT more convenient. Here are five items that I use in my every day workouts - from my own home.
1. Resistance Bands
Resistance bands are PERFECT for toning exercises. I love to use them to challenge myself while doing leg lifts, leg extensions, certain ab and arm exercises, you name it! Most movements can be amped up by adding a resistance band to the formula. These can be found at Walmart, and are very affordable.
2. 10, 15, and 20 pound dumbbells
I keep a set of 10, 15, and 20 pound dumbbells in my workout room at home. This gives me a variety of weights, to adjust accordingly depending on which exercise I m doing. If I am working out legs, I can easily hold both 20 pound dumbbells to increase the weight. If I am working out arms or abs, the lighter weights are perfect to allow for more reps.
3. A jump rope
Jumping rope is a great way to get your heart rate up during an at home workout! Jumping rope targets your arms, abs, AND legs. A jump rope can be easily stored at home, and is a very basic piece of equipment that can be added to your stash. Try jumping rope for 2 minutes as fast as you can - I can almost promise you will break a sweat!
Sometimes, the best equipment in your at-home gym is your home itself! If you have a staircase in your house, you can use it for calf raises, step-ups, tricep dips, elevated lunges, the list goes on and on. If your staircase is long, you can even run up and down it to get a quick burst of high intensity cardio.
Last but not least... The most important thing in your at-home gym: YOURSELF! So many exercises can be done with absolutely no equipment. Squat jumps, split jumps, burpees, mountain climbers, flutter kicks, leg lifts, bicycle crunches, push ups, planks - the possibilities are endless! The key is realizing that you truly CAN get the same results without a gym. So, what are you waiting for?!
