Springtime Glow: My Top Tips for Fresh Skin

Happy SPRING BREAK! It's that time of year when the weather finally starts to warm up and summertime clothes start to make their way out. Earlier this week I visited Bare Med Spa in Leawood, Kansas to get my skin freshened up & bronzed for a photoshoot. I posted this pineapple photo in my Coco Rave suit on Instagram, and a lot of people commented and said they had NEVER had a spray tan!

 

I am a huge fan of spray tanning - it is such a great way to achieve a bronzed, fresh glow without putting yourself at risk of the dangerous side effects associated with a tanning bed.

 

Here's what I love about spray tans:

1. They are pretty much instant. I can be super pale one day and then BOOM. 12 hours later I look like I just got back from Cancun. How 'bout them (pine)apples.

2. They last about a week and a half - if you take care of them right. Exfoliating beforehand plays a HUGE role in this. One time, I forgot to exfoliate my neck and chest and I was splotchy about three days later. It is important to make sure you remove all of the dead skin cells to make sure you have a fresh, clean surface for the spray tan to be directly applied to.

3. You can go as dark or as light as you want. You are in complete control! A lot of times, one or two coats will do the trick. At Bare Med Spa, they make SURE you are satisfied with your color and they even ask you which areas you want darker or lighter.

On top of spray tanning, there are so many other things you can do to achieve a fresh and hydrated glow. I am kind of a skin care fanatic, so I am always looking for new products and natural ways to keep my skin healthy. Your skin is living and breathing - and everything you put on your skin ends up in your body! Just as everything you put IN your body is seen directly on your skin. I noticed the BIGGEST difference in my skin when I completely re-vamped my diet and threw out all of the junk I had been eating. I used to have little bumps on my forehead, but after I started focusing on eating a clean diet packed with whole, natural foods - they cleared up. Fresh vegetables and fruits, lean protein like grilled chicken and ground turkey, healthy fats like mixed nuts and avocados are great for keeping your skin healthy and fresh (I'll have to make another post soon about specific foods and recipes for fresh skin). 

 

 

 

 Hydration is another HUGE factor in healthy skin. Drinking plenty of water flushes toxins and 
impurities out of the body and hydrates and plumps the skin from the inside out - preventing wrinkles. I try to carry a water bottle with me at all times to make sure I am drinking enough water throughout the day. If you are not a big water drinker, try adding some fresh fruit like lemons, blueberries, clementines, pineapple, raspberries, strawberries, or even mint leaves into your water to give it some extra flavor. 

Tip #4: GET PLENTY OF SLEEP! I am so guilty of this one - I actually have trouble sleeping more than 5 hours every night. Crazy, right? I am just naturally wired as a morning person, so no matter how late I stay up, I will always wake up before 6:00 AM. 

 

It. Never. Fails.

 

And unfortunately, lack of sleep does show up on your skin. I notice a definite difference in my skin when I am extra stressed out or haven't been getting a restful sleep. Lately, I have been using lavender oil to help me fall asleep. Something about the scent is so relaxing! I have been going to hot yoga a lot lately, and at the end of class they give out cold pressed lavender towels - to relax the body after the 80 minute flow. I have found that rubbing a few drops on the inside of my wrists before I go to bed helps TREMENDOUSLY. I'll have to do a full post on this - because a regular sleep cycle is SO important to your overall health and wellness.

 

And last, but certainly not least: simply take care of your skin. It is so important to make sure you take off your makeup before you work out or sweat heavy, wash your face before you go to bed and when you wake up in the morning, and try to be mindful of the products you are using on your body. If you missed my post about the Hydrafacial I got at Bare Med Spa not too long ago, you can click HERE to read it.
