WATCH NOW: Cranberry Almond Chia Bites VIDEO
One of the biggest barriers to eating healthy is "convenience." A lot of times, it can be so much easier to just grab the pre-packaged processed snack and get on with your busy day, right?
It pays off to have nutritious treats on hand for when you have a busy day or week ahead. It only takes a little bit of time to prep on Sunday night and then you are good to go! These Cranberry Almond Chia Bites are seriously SO simple to make - like, all you have to do is throw all of the ingredients in a bowl, mix it up, roll them into bite sized balls, and throw them in the refrigerator or freezer.
There are SO many flavor combinations you can make of snacks like these. I have made a Coconut Fudge flavor before, but you can really make any kind that you want! They resemble cookie dough bites - my absolute favorite. I will have to make a couple more variations of this recipe because they are SO good!
A lot of times, when you buy snacks like this at the store they come in the form of "healthy cookies" or "all-natural organic cookies," that secretly have added sugars and processed ingredients. The best part about making your own food: you know exactly what went in the recipe! These have 9 ingredients that are full of healthy fats, high in protein, & can be made vegan.
These were so fun to make, I just HAD to do another video tutorial of them on my YouTube channel. If you haven't yet, don't forget to subscribe to my channel to stay up to date with new recipes, workouts, and lifestyle videos.
These Cranberry Almond Chia Bites are LOADED with healthy fats. And I mean: LOADED. Each bite has 8.5 grams of fat and 5 grams of protein, making them the perfect treat to reach for when that 3pm afternoon HANGER strikes (I am guilty).
I try to eat a serving of healthy fats with every meal. I eat every 3-4 hours, and each time I fuel my body I try to include a combination of healthy fats and lean protein. I have found that this combination gives me energy, keeps me satisfied, and curbs my cravings for the rest of the day. Some of my absolute favorite sources of healthy fats are nut butters, avocados, chia seeds, and flax seeds.
Chia seeds and flax seeds are a great source of omega-3 essential fatty acids, are high in fiber, and good sources of protein. Talk about some SUPERFOODS! I wanted to make sure I threw in as many superfoods as possible in these snacks, so chia seeds and flax seeds were at the top of the list. Ground flax seed is also great mixed in to some greek yogurt or on top of some oatmeal. When it is ground, it has the consistency of graham cracker crumbs.
Another healthy fat source in these bites: almond butter. I consider myself a nut butter addict! I love peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, you name it - I probably love it. In this recipe, the almond butter really adds a sweet, nutty flavor and it makes it taste even more like cookie dough, but you can sub the almond butter for any kind of nut butter that you like.
Protein is another macro that I ALWAYS include in my snacks and meals. I love grilled chicken, ground turkey, mixed nuts, egg whites, whole eggs (the BEST on salads with some chopped avocado), protein bars, protein shakes, etc. Whenever I make a healthy snack like these Cranberry Almond Chia Bites, I always like to throw in some protein powder for an extra boost of the muscle building macro. I use UNICO Nutrition APOLLO protein powder. I love the vanilla milkshake flavor because it gives my healthy recipes a little boost of sweetness!
