Healthy 5 Ingredient Fudge Brownies | Gluten-free & Dairy-free Dessert Recipe
Five ingredient brownies may be the definition of heaven. I don't know about everyone else, but I LOVE chocolate. Like, I literally eat chocolate in some form every day. Most of the time I opt for unsweetened cocoa powder to satisfy my chocolate craving, because it is all-natural, sugar-free, and packed with antioxidants and fiber. I know, I know - plain unsweetened cocoa powder is SUPER bitter. But when you pair it with a natural sweetener like stevia or bananas (like in these brownies), it tastes more like the sweet chocolate that we all love!
The sugar in traditional desserts can be the BIGGEST culprit in weight gain & other health issues. Before I made my lifestyle change & got involved in the fitness industry I would eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted it. Candy, cookies, ice cream - you name it. If it had sugar I would eat it. When I decided to completely revamp my diet & make a complete 180 degree flip, sugar was the first thing to go. Once you detox your body from processed sugar, you no longer crave it. Now, I would much rather eat a healthy dessert that actually fuels my body, gives me sustainable energy, & still tastes delicious.
Ask yourself this: shortly after you eat do you feel weighed down, sluggish, sleepy, bloated, or irritable? If yes: take a look at the foods you are putting in your body. Too much sugar can cause ALL of these things & what your body doesn’t use as energy will be stored as body fat. These brownies use bananas and stevia to get their sweet flavor. While bananas may be a starchy fruit that is higher in sugar than some people would like, the sugars are natural and bananas provide numerous other health benefits that a cup of refined white sugar would not.
Stevia is a plant-based, calorie-free sweetener that does not have the same effect on your blood sugar levels as the real stuff would. I use stevia as my primary substitute for sugar in almost all of my healthy recipes.
Another perk about these brownies: one of the five ingredients is... *drumroll*... COLLAGEN!
What even IS collagen?
Collagen peptide powder is so easy to mix in to healthy recipes (like these brownies), smoothies, coffee, oatmeal, protein shakes - you name it. I use a flavorless powder so you don't even taste a difference in the foods you are adding it to. Collagen is actually the most abundant protein in our bodies and it has been shown to:
1. Reduce joint pain
2. Promote healthy skin, hair, and nails
3. Boost metabolism
4. Help satisfy an appetite and keep you full longer
5. Stabilize blood sugar levels
6. Prevent arthritis
7. Improve thyroid function
I use Further Food's Collagen Peptides.
